THE Philippine Embassy in Beijing yesterday advised Filipinos not to chase blue-collar jobs in China as they will only add to the growing number of undocumented workers.
"The Chinese labor market is not yet open for blue-collar Filipino and other foreign workers, thus offers from recruitment agencies can be considered as human trafficking," said Consul General Maria Teresa Almojuela.
She noted that there has been a steady influx of undocumented workers coming from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Majority of these workers were found to be based in the East China region.
The advisory comes in the wake of the continued stay of the Philippines in Tier 2 Watchlist of the US State Department.
The report said the Philippines has yet to fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
It said the Philippines remains a source of forced laborers consisting of men, women, and children in factories, construction sites, and as domestic workers in Asia and in the Middle East. – Gerard Naval
