THREE-time National Motocross Rider of the Year Kenneth San Andres and multi-titled veteran Jolet Jao will lead a five-man team that will represent the Philippines in the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations race in Lakewood, Colorado, on Sept. 25-26.
Completing the squad are Visayan motocross stalwarts Janjan Adlawan and Ralph Alvarez of Cebu and Bacolod, respectively, and Migui Tolentino who have been drawing raves in the current National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association series.
Macky Carapiet, NAMSSA and concurrent FIM-Asia chief, will be the team’s chief of mission. Also accompanying the team, backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Adidas, Monster Energy, Utopia, SDG USA, ZLT USA, Adidas, Chatterbox USA and No Fear, are NAMSSA vice president Arthur Valdez and coaches Marciano San Andres and Jehan Tetangco.
The Colorado event is considered the "Olympics" of motocross and has attracted top riders all over the world. The participation of the national team is proof that NAMSSA, the sole legitimate governing body for motorcycle sports in the Philippines, is living up to its mandate to promote the sport in the country by designing and implementing development programs for budding riders from the grassroots, honing their skills and eventually sending them to FIM world level competitions.
The NAMSSA is affiliated with the Federation International de Motocyclisme and is recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the PSC.
In a related development, the current PSC board recently recalled the recognition the previous PSC leadership has issued to a pharmaceutical company usurping the functions of the NAMSSA.
