LOS ANGELES. – Manny Pac-quiao dismissed suggestions on Wednesday that Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, being bigger, would be too hard to handle come fight night on Nov. 14 (Nov. 15 in Manila) in Las Vegas.
"I have heard that a couple of times the past two years," Pacquiao said, smiling, during media day at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card gym.
"It’s not about comparing size, not about comparing power," Pacquiao added as reporters, photographers and cameramen jostled for position. "Knowledge is power. You don’t have knowledge, you don’t have power."
The Filipino boxing icon, considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, is eyeing a slice of boxing history against Cotto, a three-time world champion.
"If I win it’s boxing history—seven titles in seven different weight divisions," Pacquiao said. "I would be so proud—being a Filipino who captured titles in seven weight divisions."
In his last fight, Pacquiao knocked out Briton star Ricky Hatton in the second round of their light welterweight clash, claiming the International Boxing Organization title. He has also won titles in the lightweight, super featherweight, junior featherweight, featherweight and flyweight classes.
Cotto’s World Boxing Organization welterweight belt will be at stake on Nov. 14 in a catch weight of 145 pounds, giving Pacquiao a chance to claim a record seventh title.
Size does matter, but not apparently for Pacquiao.
Before destroying Hatton, Pacquiao stopped a bigger Oscar De La Hoya in December 2008, winning the bout in eight rounds.
Last Tuesday, Pacquiao appeared on US television’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live" program.
