THE Philippines will host the Brunei Darusalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Friendship Games in November next year.
The hosting chore was awarded to the country following the election of Philippine Sports Commission chief Harry Angping as chairman of the BIMP-EAGA in a meeting in Indonesia last week. Angping will formally assume chairmanship of the BIMP-EAGA in March 2010.
"It’s an honor," said the former Manila congressman. "They want us to host the next BIMP-EAGA next year."
Angping said the biennial event could be held in Davao City, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, Gen. Santos in South Cotabato or Zamboanga.
Seven event were proposed to be disputed, namely, lawn tennis, badminton, sepak takraw, karatedo, athletics, aquatics and pencak silat.
The BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games was initiated by the Philippines in 1996. (Christine Moncada)
