Two thousand people from all across Asia tried for a spot on "The Biggest Loser Asia" and viewers will get to see them when the show makes its debut this November 24.
Asia’s heaviest have not wasted any time to be on the Asian edition of the highly successful and inspirational American unscripted show, "The Biggest Loser," which has eight successful seasons under its belt and is broadcast in 90 countries around the world.
Unlike most competition shows, the heart-warming unscripted series challenges its contestants to lose to win. That is, to lose as much of the unhealthy weight they have piled on their bodies over the years. The one who loses the most weight wins the grand prize of US$100,000 and a Renault car.
But more importantly for the 2000 applicants, "The Biggest Loser Asia" promises its participants a chance at regaining their health and ultimately, their lives.
It is a dream come true for many who have been bogged down by health problems as a result of carrying extra weight on their bodies all of their adult lives. For some others, just taking part in "The Biggest Loser Asia" will be a mood and confidence booster, as many applicants have revealed, being overweight isn’t a laughing matter, despite the happy and carefree attitude that many use to cover up their unhappiness with their bodies and lives.
In 14 weekly one-hour episodes every Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Hallmark Channel, get to know who have put their faces, bodies and pride on the line, to show the world how serious they are in cutting the fat from their lives.
Thirty residents of Asia will be selected and led by fitness trainers, Dave Nuku and Kristy Curtis in daily physical activity on The Biggest Loser Asia camp in Malacca, Malaysia.
It will be a drastic change of events for the contestants. Facing a diet and lifestyle overhaul, contestants will have to surrender luxuries in life, like their mobile phones and Internet access on the boot camp. They will have to eat healthily too – female contestants will have to survive on a daily maximum of just 1200 calories, while their larger male teammates are limited to 1500 calories.
The path to weight loss for the contestants would definitely be challenging and filled with temptation, like in real life. Contestants will face temptation challenges where they are enticed with delicious food that they love but are diet-wrecking. Moreover, contestants have to be team-players as well to survive in "The Biggest Loser Asia." Succumbing to slacking off when the going gets tough would be done at the peril of a team’s fate at the elimination room.
"The Biggest Loser Asia" is a pan-regional production produced by Imagine Group ("The Contender Asia") and is hosted by Malaysian celebrity Sarimah Ibrahim and supported by established global brands Fitness First, The Biggest Loser Club, Renault and venue sponsor A’Farmosa.
