ABS-CBN tweaks higher
revenues from cable, films

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. sees higher revenues from its cable, film and international businesses for this year.

Sky Cable and international channel ABS-CBN Global, according to Vivian Tin, head of business analysis for ABS-CBN will contribute on-third of revenues this year.

The company reported that last year, consolidated revenues rose 17 percent to P19.9 billion, due to higher airtime revenues and sale of services.

Airtime revenues grew a robust 28 percent to P13.6 billion on the back of higher advertising rates and higher volume. ABS-CBN increased its advertising volume in 2007 by 9 percent , even as the industry as a whole saw advertising volume decline.

Direct sales, which consist of both sale of services and sale of goods from subsidiaries, posted a 12 percent growth to P5.3 billion as ABS-CBN Global and ABS-CBN Films continued to deliver.

ABS-CBN Global increased its subscriber base by 22 percent with international viewers now hovering at 1.7 million at the end of 2007.

ABS-CBN Films’ average gross receipts per movie rose 42 percent to P115 million, buoyed by movies that grossed more than P150 million: Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo; Ang Cute ng Ina Mo; A Love Story; and One More Chance.

The company said that net expenses rose 13 percent to P17.6 billion with the company producing more in-house shows.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) hit a new record-high of P5.06 billion, up 21 percent.

Tin said that ABS-CBN is increasing its stake in Sky Cable from 10 to 50 percent.

ABS-CBN is setting aside P1.9 billion capex for Sky Cable this year.

Rolando P. Valdueza ABS-CBN chief financial officer said the company sees potential 8 million additional subscribers for The Filipino Channel (TFC) this year, from current 1.7 million viewers.

With the aggressive expansion in Sky Cable, Valdueza said that they expect to tap 30 percent or 5 million more from the current 13 to 14 million cableTV

subscribers in the Philippines.

At present tSky Cable has 1-million subscribers.

Valdueza said the company is stilll on track to list Sky Cable next year.

To meet the demand of growing subscribers Tin said that Sky Cable has expanded the number of cable channels from five to eight.
