Jiro, Jon and Polo more
comfortable with gay roles

Regal Entertainment brings to the big screen the sequel to the 2006 box office hit comedy "Manay Po." And this time, the well-loved Dimagiba clan becomes more loaded with Rufa Mae’s addition to the wacky family. Written by Dinno Erece and directed by Joel Lamangan, "Manay Po 2. Overload" promises nothing but hearty laughs for the audiences.

In "Manay Po 2: Overload," Luzviminda Dimagiba (Cherry Pie Picache) and her three gay sons: Oscar (Polo Ravales), Orson (John Prats) and Orwell (Jiro Manio) are back! And now they want to add a new member to their outrageous family – so when the Dimagibas are figuring out this dilemma, Bette (Rufa Mae Quinto) – the ditzy baby maker just came right on time to provide the answer.

But along with a new family member, comes a new set of problems for the rest of the family, Luz gets insecure with her daring Gerry’s (Christian Vasquez) eccentric co-star Summer Rain (Rubi-Rubi), Adhanne (Sid Lucero) becomes jealous with Oscar’s (Polo) affection with Bette, while Orson (John) who is still hopelessly in love with Marky (Mike Tan) becomes emotionally torn when he found out Marky’s engagement. Meanwhile, Onwell (Jiro) is having identity issues and is now confused on choosing between wearing a gown and trousers.

The original "Manay Po" cast seems to be in tune with their adjustments for the sequel, all of them are really prepared in reprising their roles. John Prats shares, "Honesty, nung inoffer sa akin yung project na ‘Manay Po 2’ medyo hesitant ako to accept it kasi its another gay movie na naman. But when direk Joel called me up sabi n’ya John – read the script first sobrang ganda nung project maganda yung story. So when I read the script yes it is a good script kaya tinanggap ko na.

"Preparation ko lang I think sabi ni Direk Joel sa akin ‘wag kong isipin na bading ako dito isipin ko na babae ako. So good thing na may sister akong babae at may mga friends din ako na babae and kung paano sila mag-act yun ang naging motivation ko for my role as Orson."

Meanwhile Cherry Pie Picache narrates the changes in her role as Luzviminda Dimagiba, "I had a speech defect from the ‘Manay Po 1.’ And more apparent changes is magaling na yung speech defect ko. So that was one exciting part at least I don’t have difficult time na talking. Actually doing ‘Manay Po’ is a breather for me because most of the films I’ve been doing are serious and dramatic films, ngayon for fun lang."

While Polo Ravales happily recounts, "Before closet gay ako tinatago ko sa mommy ko na gay ako ditto. Sa part 2, open na ako pero hindi ako as loud na gay as John. The big difference talaga dito sa sequel is that mas comfortable kami ngayon with our roles.

"Tsaka iba ang samahan namin dito during shoot, nag-gel kami lahat part 1 palang tapos ngayon hahaluan mo pa ng Rufa Mae, not na. Kaya minsan nasisigawan kami ni Direk kasi maingay kami dun sa set," chuckles Polo whose reprising his role as Oscar Dimagiba.

All the cast are very happy, aside from being reunited with each of their fellow actors and with director Joel Lamangan, Rufa Mae Quinto’s entry to hilarious family bandwagon became a real comic knockout during the whole filming experience.

John Prats jovially reveals, "Honestly, hindi ko talaga ni-reregret na ginawa ko ulit tong pelikula. Kasi same cast, same team, same writer, same production man wild nga lang yung script mas laugh trip. Casting pa lang ng ‘Manay Po 2’ at sigurado talaga itaga n’yo sa bato matatawa talaga kayo."

"Manay Po 2" starts its theater run on April 16.
