23 more carjacked vehicles
recovered in Mindanao

TASK Force Limbas of the PNP-Traffic Management Group (TMG) recovered 23 more stolen, high-end luxury vehicles in Ecoland, Davao City, in Cagayan de Oro and other parts of Mindanao from March 2 through April 5, 2008.

TF Limbas chief Senior Supt. Antonio Gardiola, TMG intelligence division chief Supt. Ruel Obusan and the regional chiefs of RTMO 10, RTMO 11 and RTMO 12, upon orders of TMG director Chief Supt. Perfecto Palad, continued their anti-carjacking operations in Mindanao after unearthing the vast Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao carnap network that resulted in the initial recovery of 19 stolen luxury vehicles from Feb. 24 to March 13, 2008.

The second batch of recovered vehicles consisted of seven Mitsubishi Pajeros, four Toyota Fortuners, three Honda CRVs, and two each of Toyota Prados, Revos and Innovas, one Isuzu Alterra, one Toyota Revo and one Mitsubishi L-300. Fifteen of these vehicles were recorded as stolen while eight with spurious documents and tampered engine and chassis numbers were being passed off as imported cars.

The entire TMG operation in Mindanao area was triggered by the apprehension of PBA player Lordy Tugade by TF Limbas operatives in Mandaluyong last November while driving a Toyota Fortuner with suspicious documents. This was followed by an attempt to ship to Cebu via Sulpicio Lines two 2008 Honda CRVs and a Mitsubishi Strada with spurious LTO documents.

"We have already recovered more than 40 stolen/wanted motor vehicles since we conducted this operation in the middle of March and we intend to sustain this until we finally dismantle the operation of the syndicates that bring carnapped motor vehicles from Luzon to Mindanao" Palad said.
