Café Med, which has eight branches in Manila,
Boracay and Davao, takes a "beyond borders" approach to business
by improving the quality of life through healthy cuisine in an
atmosphere where each guest can relax and enjoy simple
pleasures, and take it a step further, by addressing
environmental concerns.
Since opening over 13 years ago, they have
segregated garbage in all their branches and used recyclable and
reusable products for packaging as much as possible.
Café Med co-owner Marla Tańada and her team
asked themselves what more they could do to help save the
planet. What came to mind were the banners printed on tarpaulins
announcing the special menus created every few weeks. For years,
old tarps have piled up in their warehouse so they thought of
putting these tarps to use as tote bags instead of throwing them
into some dumpster. These tote bags are attractive and durable
and can be used to carry groceries, or as beach bags, laptop
bag, and more.
The tarp totes are for sale at all Café Med
branches. Proceeds partially go to production cost of the bags
and the balance will be donated to Earth Day Network, Inc., an
international organization based in Washington D.C. The
non-profit organization develops programs and curriculum for
school children to assist them in understanding the environment
and their impact on it.
Cafe Med’s recycled Earth Day tarp tote comes in unique
prints and is available at all Cafe Mediterranean restaurants.
