DHL, the world’s leading express and
logistics company, has launched DHL GOGREEN Express, an
environment-friendly service that reduces the transportation
emissions of shipments in the Asia Pacific region.
DHL GOGREEN Express is part of the GOGREEN
range of carbon-neutral and low-carbon shipping options already
available to DHL customers in Europe. The service was first
launched in January 2007 at the World Economic Forum in Davos to
help the Forum achieve its carbon neutral commitment. In Asia
Pacific, the service will be available in 17 countries across
the region over the course of this year.
With this value-added service, DHL aims to
meet the demands of customers who are looking for a more
environmentally-responsible shipping option. Customers will pay
an additional 3 percent "green premium" on top of standard
delivery charges to enroll to the service.
"DHL prioritizes sustainable and
environment-friendly initiatives. We have continuously
streamlined our systems and processes to ensure that we leave a
minimal environmental footprint. In addition, we have created
products and services that will allow our clients to partner us
in our conservation efforts. The DHL GOGREEN Express is an
easy-to-use carbon neutral service that proactively addresses
the climate change challenge," said Ahmad Mohamad, DHL Express
Philippines country manager.
The amount of carbon dioxide produced by the
shipment will be offset by DHL through carbon reduction projects
such as alternative vehicle technology, solar panels and
reforestation projects. Clients who ship through GOGREEN Express
will also receive assistance and certification from Deutsche
Post World Net’s Carbon Management group.
GOGREEN Express customers who are regularly
audited for gas emissions can submit the DHL credit certificates
as proof of their environmental compliance. Clients can be
further assured of GOGREEN Express processes since it is
annually verified by the Swiss-based Societe Generale de
Surveillance (SGS), an independent certifying body.
GOGREEN Express packages are monitored with DHL’s patented
Automated Customer Calculation of Environmental Performance Tool
(ACCEPT). ACCEPT calculates the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2)
generated by transporting each specific consignment from the
country of origin to its destination.
