Talk on Simon Flores
works at Ayala Museum

AYALA Museum invites the public to a gallery tour on Simon Flores: His Life and Works by Kenneth Esguerra, Ayala Museum’s senior curator and head of conservation at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26.

This gallery tours is in line with the ongoing exhibition of the works of Simon de la Rosa Flores (1839-1902) at the 3/F Galleries of Ayala Museum.

Little is known about this 19th century master, whose most outstanding works are with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas collection and a few select private collectors.

In 1876, Flores received the first-ever international art recognition for an individual of pure Filipino descent. He was awarded the silver medal for his work of La Musica del Pueblo (The Music of the Town) in the Philadelphia Universal Exposition of the same year. He excelled in portraiture, especially on the detailed representation called miniaturismo, of the elaborate piña costumes and jewelry his sitters wore.

Kenneth Esguerra has two decades of working experience in museums in the Philippines and abroad. He is a regular lecturer on curatorship and collections management, Philippine art history, and museum conservation.

The gallery tour is free with museum admission. The exhibition Simon dela Rosa Flores will be on view until May 25. Ayala Museum is located along Greenbelt Park, Makati Avenue corner De la Rosa Street, Makati, Philippines.
