set to invade Manila
QUALIFYING tournaments for the 2009 Women’s
World 10-Ball Championships on June 2-6 in the Philippines
will be held in the United States and Japan and will culminate
with three qualifying events in Manila.
The series of qualifiers that will complete
the 48-player field vying for the distinction of becoming the
first ever female World 10-Ball champion and the $20,000 cash
prize that goes with it will begin on May 2 at the Corner
Pocket Billiards in Orlando, Florida.
Some of the players competing the
qualifiers are former WPBA player Angel Paglia of Arizona,
amateur star Shanelle Loraine of Guam, and local Florida
favorite Jeannie Seaver.
Another qualifier will be held at the Fast
Break Billiards in the same American city the following day.
It will be followed by a tournament on May
11 at CESPA Ageo in Tokyo, Japan, before the series goes to
Manila for the final three qualifiers on May 31 to June 1 at a
venue to be announced later.
Top lady players from the United States,
Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, Austria, China,
Canada and the Philippines are among those expected to compete
in the event sanctione by the World Pool-Billiards
Association.
The winner of each qualifier will receive
free entry worth $60 and gets a shot at the $20,000 champion’s
purse. The runner-up earns $9,000 while the losing
semifinalists get $5,000 each. The losing quarterfinalists
earn $3,000 each.
