Viva Concerts and Events is staging "Greatest
Hits of the ‘80s" at the Music Museum on May 16 and 17. The
two-night show will see Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia, Raymond
Lauchengco and Randy Santiago singing some of their biggest
hits, with a few surprises thrown in.
Gino is the voice that sold a thousand tubes
of toothpaste back in the day. Well, not really, but his
signature song "Closer You and I" was used in a toothpaste
commercial once. The exposure helped his follow-up singles "I
Believe in You" and "Let the Love Begin" become just as
successful.
Gino has a new album "Hands of Time," which
he co-produced with Sharon Cuneta.
For his part, Louie’s hits – like "Iisang
Damdamin," "Nag-iisang Ikaw" and "Una at Huling Mamahalin" –
served as the soundtrack for many a guy courting a girl back in
the day. These days, he is actually more focused on developing
his talent in the kitchen. His specialty? Paella, which you can
order from him. So engrossed is he with this new business
venture of his that he went into semi-retirement. However, when
Viva contacted him, he agreed to come out of semi-retirement.
Raymond Lauchengco will add a little
something extra with stirring renditions of all his old hits,
including "I Need You Back," "Farewell," "Saan Darating ang
Umaga" and "So It’s You." That he will participate in this show
is fitting, since he started his career in the 1980’s via the
teen movie "Bagets," which was also produced by Viva – and he
has also released a new album, "Full Circle."
Meanwhile, "Babaero," one of Randy Santiago’s
biggest hits, was the song for all ladies’ men. Randy – who of
late has ventured into directing – will be singing "Babaero" and
his other hits, so if you’ve missed "Hindi Magbabago," "Para Sa
‘Yo" and "Tuloy Pa Rin" live, then grab tickets to "Greatest
Hits of the ‘80s" ASAP.
Produced by Viva Concerts and Events, it is
directed by Jun-Jun Santiago, with Noel Cruz of Serenity Band on
hand as the musical director. Jake Tordesillas and Kaye Brondial
share writing duties.
