THE Department of Labor and Employment
yesterday said 250,000 jobs will be made available to jobseekers
nationwide, including fresh graduates, in various job fairs to
be held in almost all regions in the country this Friday to mark
the celebration of Labor Day.
Labor Secretary Marianito Roque called on the
public to take advantage of the fair dubbed as Jobapalooza ‘09.
"More than 1,000 local firms and overseas recruiters would offer
more than 250,000 productive job opportunities to new graduates
and jobseekers."
Hirings for local job openings include those
for business process outsourcing, corporate, accounting and
human resources. Overseas job opportunities range from
information technology, carpentry, barista, industrial
electrician, staff nurse, forklift controller, crane operators,
mechanics, masons, pipefitters, caretakers, welders, dishwasher,
electrician, cooks and plumbers.
Aside from the main job fair at the SM Mall
of Asia complex in Pasay City, there are also regional versions
set at SM Rosales, Pangasinan; Baguio Convention Center/SM
Baguio; Paseo Real, Tuguegarao City, and Faustino L. Dy
gymnasium in Cauayan City (registration of professionals); SM
City Pampanga, SM City Clark, SM City Baliuag, SM City Marilao;
SM Sta. Rosa (livelihood fair); and SM Naga City.
In the Visayas and Mindanao, the job fairs
will be held at the Robinson’s Place and Gaisano City, both in
Bacolod City; Cebu City Sports Complex (overseas fair); SM City
Cebu Jobs Fair; Provincial Capitol (local fair); ZC Golden Boys
Grille, Nunez Extension, Zamboanga City; SM Cagayan de Oro City;
Kidapawan City Gymnasium, South Seas Complex, KCC Mall of GenSan,
and the Luciano Convention Center in Butuan City.
Roque said the latest data showed that around
20,603 jobseekers have already registered for the job fair after
it was launched late last month.
Aside from the jobs on offer, the fairs will also provide
entrepreneurship slideshows, medical missions and
training/livelihood seminars. – Gerard M. Naval
