Pampanga gov leads campus
tour for ethical leadership

PAMPANGA governor Eddie Panlilio spoke before more than 700 students at the Far Eastern University in Manila to kick off the campus tour of Kaya Natin! A Movement for Genuine Change and Ethical Leadership.

Kaya Natin! was founded by the Ateneo de Manila University-School of Government together with exemplary local government leaders such as Panlilio, Gov. Grace Padaca of Isabela, Mayor Jesse Robredo of Naga City and Mayor Sonia Lorenzo of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija. The main aim of the movement is to bring together every good Filipino to join in the fight for good governance and ethical leadership. One of the main activities of Kaya Natin is to visit colleges and universities all over the Philippines and inspire the Filipino youth to become agents of change in our country.

In his talk, Panlilio narrated his campaign to become governor of Pampanga despite his meager resources and his well-funded, well-entrenched political opponents Mark Lapid and Lilia Pineda. He said he entered politics because he believes it is not a dirty game and only politicians driven by their own self-interests that give politics a bad name.

He also told the students about his success in ensuring that quarrying taxes were used to deliver basic services to his constituents. He also said he met with all the contractors who bid for infrastructure projects in the province soon after his inauguration and made it clear to them that the days of graft and overpricing were over.

In the open forum, Panlilio said that our country's leaders starting with our President should work hard to address rampant corruption in government, poverty, and the rising number of human rights violations.

Panlilio also asked the students to register for the 2010 national elections and volunteer for organizations that promote responsible leadership and politics.

Kaya Natin! will be at De La Salle University on Aug. 14, Miriam College on Sept. 4 and Philippine Normal University on Sept. 5. For more information, contact Kaya Natin's secretariat at (02) 426-5657 or send email to kayanatin@yahoo.com.
