PPA starts charging on VTMS fee

The Philippine Ports Authority’s Port Management Office of Batangas last Friday started charging vessels plying Batangas bay, Maricaban straight and Balayan bay fees for the vessel traffic monitoring system (VTMS) project. The VTMS enhance the vessel safety upon arrival and departing at the port and at the same time generate revenues to the PMO. The PPA will be charging P250 for vessels up to 1,000 gross tons, P500 for ships up to 10,000 gross tons, and P1, 000 for over 10,000 gross tons. PPA will charge P150 a day for those tugs, outriggers, motorized bancas, and wooden hulls operating in Puerto Galera routes and in nearby areas. Fastcrafts, such as Aboitiz’s Supercat, will also be charged between P150 to P300 a day.
