PEOPLE say that Maja Salvador and Jason
Abalos are in love. They share magic and chemistry onscreen.
Truth is Maja and Jason are only the best of friends. Jason
admits that once he tried to court Maja, but she reminded him
they better concentrate on their respective careers. Love can
wait.
Screen partners don’t have to be real lovers
to click with the public. It’s enough that they have rapport.

Leon, and Susan Roces and Eddie Gutierrez.
Maja and Jason are teamed anew in Regal’s "My
Kuya’s Wedding," also top billed by Ryan Agoncillo and Pauleen
Luna and directed by Topel Lee. Maja plays Ryan’s possessive
younger sister, doing everything to stop his wedding to Pauleen
Luna, until she falls in love with Jason and realizes how
selfish she is. The trailer and pictorials showing Maja and
Jason in romantic scenes and poses excite moviegoers, who agree
theirs is the tandem to watch. Maja’s innocent beauty blends
well with Jason’s virile looks.
They earlier teamed up in "First Day High"
and several teledramas including an episode in "Maalaala
Mo Kaya," where Maja’s uncle, Philip Salvador, played the
father. It was a heavy drama, but Maja and Jason held their own
against Philip, one of the country’s most awarded actors.
Jason recently merited raves in the
independent film "Endo," where he played a worker struggling to
make both ends meet. Film critics, columnists, and directors –
even fellow actors – have nothing but good words for Jason’s
performance. Directors Rory Quintos, Joyce Bernal and Joel
Lamangan were also impressed.
With regards to Maja, acting ability and
beauty must be in the genes. Remember she’s a Salvador – so
think of Phillip and Jojo and the late Leroy Salvador. And then
there’s the late Mina Aragon (Fermina Salvador del Rosario), one
of the prettiest faces to grace the big screen.
On TV, Maja made memorable performance as an
ill-fated special child in an episode of "Maala-ala Mo Kaya,"
earning the admiration of host Charo Santos, writer Olive
Lamangan, and co-stars Vilma Santos and Ricky Davao, who played
her parents. She stood out as the girl who sees the dark future
in the thriller "Sukob," starring Kris Aquino and Claudine
Barretto.
Maja and Jason’s decision to remain friends
augurs well for their careers. On the set, be it movie or TV
shows, they are relaxed. No tension, no pressure, no hassle. Had
there been a romantic relationship, it would have been a
different story.
People are looking forward to "My Kuya’s Wedding," which
promises to be an entertaining and heartwarming film. Maja and
Jason worked well with their Kuya Ryan, the cast and the
staff.
