‘Now I’ll sing some of them with her. And she, in return, will sing some of my songs. Yes, in Tagalog. – Imelda Papin’

Imelda Papin to share stage with Melissa Manchester
IT was a pleasant experience talking again to “Sentimental Songstress” Imelda Papin, who returns to the recording scene after a long hiatus. She was out of the scene partly because she went into politics and even became vice governor of Camsur (Camarines Norte) for four years. Then came her decision to try her luck in the US.
There’s no doubt that Imelda is doing well in the US. And this is not only because she married a good man who is extra supportive of her career, but also because it is apparent that they are in love with each other.
She has also maintained her good looks, long straight hair and bangs. She is still as slim as before.
When she met with members of the movie press last Thursday, she was wearing red, which enhanced her youthful looks all the more. You wouldn’t think she is a lola now.
“I have one apo with my daughter, Maffi (her only child with former husband Bong Carreon, himself a governor of a province in the Visayas). Yes, by her present husband,” she said.
“Do you mean Maffi has married twice already?” we asked.
“In the US, that’s not surprising at all,” Imelda answered. “You may get married today and get a divorce the following day.
“Iba na talaga ang mga kabataan ngayon,” she continued. “They do what they think is right for them. Which is the right thing to do.
“Para sa akin, wherever and whatever makes my daughter happy, I’m for it.”
Like Imelda, Maffi is a green card holder.

Imelda is in town for her upcoming concert with international singer, Melissa Manchester, on Sept. 18, 8 p.m., at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) at the CCP Complex and on Sept. 20, also at 8 p.m., at the Pacific Grand Ballroom, Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug City.
The concert is produced by Viva Concerts and Events and International Entertainment, Inc.
Still a name to reckon with as a singer and recording star in the country, Imelda, who is now making the “Vegas” (as in Las Vegas) scene, first had a two-day concert at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada lasy July 31 and August 2 with Melissa.
Melissa is known among Filipino music lovers as the voice behind the popular songs “Looking Through the Eyes of Love,” the movie theme from “Ice Castle,” “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” “Midnight Blue” and “If This Is Love.”
“I used to sing her (Melissa) songs in my concerts. Now I’ll sing some of them with her. And she, in return, will sing some of my songs. Yes, in Tagalog,” Imelda revealed with a smile.
Imelda will be in town until October 4.

“Dahil May Isang Ikaw,” the new series on ABS-CBN which premiered Monday, is clearly not a TV adaptation of the blockbuster movie of the same title starring Aga Muhlach and Regine Velasquez and directed by Joyce Bernal.
The TV series is actually an all-out drama starring several of local films and TV’s award-winning performers, such as Lorna Tolentino, Gabby Concepcion, John Estrada and Chin Chin Gutierrez.
Also starring in this dramatic masterpiece are young stars Jericho Rosales, Kristine Hermosa, Sid Lucero and Karylle. Direction is by Jerry Lopez-Sineneng and Richie del Carmen.
“It’s nice working with some of the best in the field,” said Chin Chin, twice cited as Finest Actress in the Asian Awards.
Chin Chin has had the privilege of working even with international artists in six foreign productions. These films, no doubt, have tested her competence as a performer, which made her a name to reckon with.
In the local scene, Chin Chin has appeared in over 20 feature films, some of which won her several awards and citations.
An environmental advocate, Chin Chin has been featured on the cover of the Time Magazine and was cited as one of the Asian Heroes because of her numerous environmental advocacies.
Chin Chin is also tagged as a defender of Philippine heritage, as she continually supports and preserves cultural tradition of the country.

Guess what international boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao, gifted his now sexy wife (thanks to Dr. Victoria Belo), Jinkee?
A brand new Mercedes Benz.
“Actually,” said Manny. “She has long asked me to give her a car of this brand. She even described to me its model and make.”
“Ako naman, I dilly-dallied. Until finally, I thought, it was the right time for me to give her the gift.”
Manny’s new sitcom on GMA 7, “Show Me Da Manny,” premiered last Sunday. It also stars Marian Rivera, Lovi Poe, Benjie Paras, Paolo Contis and his real-life mom, Mommy Dionesia.
