Land Bank expands
Manila Bay clean-up

THE Land Bank of the Philippines is expanding its annual clean-up activities at the Manila Bay with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Manila City government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Manila Yacht Club and the 101st Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxilliary.

Under the Expanded Manila Bay Clean-Up Program, Landbank will finance the construction of trash traps for two outfalls in Remedios and Padre Faura in Manila. It will also finance the fuel consumption of the additional weekly trip as well as the annual engine tune up of MYC and PCGA’s boat which removes debris from the trash traps and the Manila North Harbor.

The Manila City government will provide manpower and trucks to collect and properly dispose of the garbage.

The DENR, through its National Capital Region and Manila Bay River Basin Coordinating Offices, shall provide technical assistance to ensure the successful implementation of the program.

Landbank president and CEO Gilda Pico said the Bank has been conducting an annual clean-up of the Manila Bay as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programs since it established its headquarters in Malate, Manila in 2002.

"With this expanded program, we aim at ensuring the sustainability of our efforts to help clean and protect the Manila Bay. This is among our environmental programs and in line with our being an ISO 14001:2004-certified institution," Pico said.
