Alert sounded for destab
recruiters in Camarines Sur

THE Bicol Region Police Office has placed its intelligence men on the lookout against alleged members of the Magdalo group reportedly recruiting forces in Camarines Sur to destabilize the government.

Regional police chief Senior Supt. Balligi Tira said in a phone interview that information has reached them that at least two alleged members of the Magdalo Group, which staged the short-lived Oakwood mutiny in 2003, were seen "somewhere" in Camarines Sur last Tuesday.

"They are suspected to be carrying out recruitment activities in an area in Camarines Sur, so I dispatched my intelligence agents to conduct surveillance operations," Tira said.

He declined to provide details or identify the supposed recruiters.

He also said the alleged recruitment has yet to be confirmed by his men. "Wala naman daw sa pulis ko ang nire-recruit ng mga iyon… So far, very general pa lang ang information na nakarating sa akin on the alleged recruitment."

Tira said no recruitment for destabilizers would happen in his area of concern.

"The Police Regional Office 5 is in support of the PNP in rallying behind President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and is ready to thwart all anti-government forces, either from the rightist, leftist or extremist that will try to destabilize the government," he said.

The Bicol Region Police Office is located in Albay’s capital Legazpi City, while the Army’s 9th Infantry Division is based in Pili, Camarines Sur. – Raymond Africa
