Javier bill to plug loopholes in Milk Code

ANTIQUE Rep. Exequiel B. Javier has filed HB 1827 to effectively enforce Executive Order No. 51 (the Local Milk Code) by resolving unclear provisions and ambiguities in the rules regulating the practices of companies in advertising and marketing infant formula products.

Javier’s bill will restrict the use of brand names for the products covered by the Code. Javier said companies go around the advertising ban on infant milk by simply using their brand names on other products, by adding a prefix or suffix to the same brand names and freely advertising and promoting these products.

"By plugging these loopholes in the current regulations, the ban on advertising and promotion of infant milk, which is the essence of the WHO Milk Code, will be effectively implemented finally," he said.

Javier said HB 1827 is the consolidated version of HBs 5314, 5714, 5787 and 5819 filed by several lawmakers in the 13th Congress.

Row between embassies and Dasma residents resolved

OFFICIALS from Barangay Dasmariñas and the Dasmariñas Village Association have reached a compromise with the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding visa-issuing embassies within the village.

Dasmariñas barangay captain Ma. Encarnacion Legaspi said the DVA and the DFA have agreed that all the visa-issuing sections of the embassies will leave the village, in line with the village’s policy that limits the use of its lots to residential purposes only.

The DFA will take care of telling the embassies of Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Mexico, Nigeria, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Sri-Lanka, Turkey and China about the agreement.
