The country’s most beautiful faces vie for Reyna ng Aliwan crown

The search for festival queen heats up this summer’s celebration of the annual Aliwan Fiesta, with 20 young ladies representing various festivals all over the country vying for the title of Festival Queen, or Reyna ng Aliwan 2018.  Manila Broadcasting Company, which produces the annual cultural extravaganza in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Cities of Manila and Pasay, has released the list of this year’s candidates.

Bets from the north are Karla O’Hara for the Panagbenga festival of Baguio; Chanel Mistyca Corpuz for the Abrenian Kawayan festival of Abra;  and Joy Mayanne Barcoma for the Talong festival of Villasis, Pangasinan.

Bulacan is sending Lady Justerinnie Santos to represent the Singkaban festival of Malolos and Micaela Manuel for the Halamanan festival of Guiguinto.

Quezon Province, in turn, sends Radhell Berbon for the Tagultol festival of Atimonan; Ella Mariz Cayabyab for the Boling Boling festival of Catanauan; and Ashanti Shane Ervas for the Niyogyugan festival.
The lone entry from Rizal province is Maristela Santiago, representing Tayo Na sa Antipolo Maytime festival.

Visayan pulchritude has four faces this year.  First time participant Caluya, Antique is sending Joyce Marie Sebio for the Binirayan festival, while Iloilo Paraw Regatta will field Keziah Bartolome.  Shaila Mae Rebortera attempts to keep the crown for the Sinulog festival of Cebu, with Chelsea Fernandez of Tacloban’s Sangyaw festival aims to win it for the Warays. 

SOCSKSARGEN will be fully represented by Arl Banquerigo of the Munato festival in Sarangani;  Sharifa Mangatong Areef Mohammad Omar Akeel for the Kalimudan festival of Sultan Kudarat; with General Santos City’s Novie Shane Leonerio for the Tuna festival and Elizabeth Bills for the Kalilangan festival.  Honors for North Cotabato’s Kalivungan festival will be carried by Chrislyn Jabonero.

Rounding up this year’s entries are Jackie Ruth Urongan for the Salug festival of Zamboanga del Norte and Bianca Iraham for the Zamboanga Hermosa festival.

The pageant night will be held at the outdoor stage in front of the Aliw Theater at the CCP Complex on April 27. The coronation night follows the grand parade and festival dance showdown on April 28. This year’s Festival Queen winner will receive P100,000 cash and a trophy, plus the chance to be a goodwill ambassadress for domestic tourism. Previous winners have gone on to participate in international beauty contests and have likewise tracked careers in professional modelling.
