PH hosts two international pageants

TWO international pageants, one male and one female, will be staged here in Metro Manila tomorrow and on Tuesday where the host delegates will attempt to win the coveted titles and add to the long list of international titles that has put the Philippines at the forefront of the global pageant arena.

Tomorrow night at the Dance Vision Arena in San Juan City, the inaugural Jewel of the World will see delegates from all over the world showcasing their respective cultures, and promoting mutual understanding in order to break down the wall of cultural differences.

Playing the role of host delegate is Achelle Joy Pamintuan Medrano, an 18-year-old Grade 12 graduate who intends to pursue a career in architecture. Born and raised in Abu Dhabi, Achelle has decided to stay in the Philippines. She won the Darling of the Press award at the press presentation held at Icon Hotel Timog last Sunday.

The other delegates are: Kristina Zamir of Azerbaijan, Laurra Kofi of Cote D’Ivoire, Claire Boucau of France, Manpreet Kaur Sekhon of India, Miki Kojima of Japan, Ji Young Park of Korea, Ashley Tang Ci En of Malaysia, Chit Myat Noe Htike of Myanmar, Sapana Bhetwal of Nepal, Neena Bezuidenhout of South Africa, and Raffha Khong-Ngam of Thailand.

A brainchild of pageant director and beauty queen maker John Edward de la Vega, Jewel of the World was supposed to be launched last year but finally took off this year after giving way to the 65th Miss Universe in Manila.

The inaugural Jewel of the World is supported by the Provincial Government of Bulacan, Orabella Gold in Beauty, Mileage Asia, Municipality of Bocaue, DR Swim by Domz Ramos, Madison 101 Hotel & Tower, Gems Multi-Media Events and Productions Inc. and fashion designers Antonio Antonio, Cathy Mora-Capistrano and Jhune Angeles.

On Tuesday at Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig, the 2nd annual Mr. Universe Tourism will gather 15 gorgeous men from as many countries worldwide to showcase their cultures and promote tourism as they vie for the coveted title currently held by Richard Ricardo Carter of Thailand.

The Philippines is represented this year by Misters of Filipinas titleholder Benigno “Ion” Perez, a 26-year-old sports enthusiast and print ad model from Capas, Tarlac.
Ion was feted last weekend at Novotel Manila by his fellow Misters of Filipinas titlists, officers of Prime Events Productions Philippines Foundation Inc. (PEPPS) led by Carlo Morris Galang, officers of Arctic Sky Entertainment Productions Corporation led by Dr. Dennis Aguirre and director Jerry Lopez Sineneng, the new partners of Misters of Filipinas; and Gerald Ortiz of Kasama, Inc, the owner and producer of Mr. Universe Tourism.

Ion vowed to do his best to make our country proud in the international tilt. His Panagbenga Festival-inspired national costume was created by Patrick Isorena while his formal wear was done by Bea Bianca.
