Miricioiu and Espiritu in concert

This Sunday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Ayala Museum in Makati, Nelly Miricioiu, considered one of the most important singers of this century and a versatile singing actress, teams up with Arthur Espiritu, the country’s premier tenor, in a concert entitled “Passione”.  This is a fund-raising event for the Cultural Arts Events Organizer’s Young Artist Development Program.

Both artists will perform arias and duets from best-loved operas, including “La Wally,”  “Adriana Lecouvreur,”  Puccini’s “Tosca,” Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and “La Traviata,”  Mozart’s “Cosi fan Tutte,” Rossini’s “Semiramide,”  Bellini’s “Il Pirata,” to name a few.

Miricioiu’s repertoire extends from Mozart and bel canto to Verdi;  Puccini and the verismo to modern Italian operas, including those by Respighi and Zandonai, as well those by French and Russian composers. Rodney Milnes.

Since her Covent Garden debut in 1982 as Nedda in “I Pagliacci” opposite John Vickers, Piero Cappuccili and Thomas Allen and her 1983 triumphant La Scala debut as Lucia di Lammermoor, Miricioiu has been heard in all major opera houses of the world. She has worked with the most prestigious conductors and directors.

Miricioiu is universally acclaimed for her luscious sound, beautifully constructed technique and exceptional theatrical stage presence.  Michael Davdison wrote about her in an article in “Opera Magazine”: “The highly individual timbre of Miricioiu’s voice, her imagination and intensity, her exceptional range and sense of timing make for a unique talent.”

Returning after his successful debut performance with the Australian Opera as Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme,”  Espiritu is the first Filipino of this generation to perform at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan,  Baden Baden with the famed Franz Welser Most, St. Gellen in Switzerland, Magdeburg in Germany to name a few.  He is a recipient of the George London Award, a winner of the Belvedere Voice Competition in Vienna and the Metropolitan Opera Audition.

“Passione” is made possible through the CAEO partnership with Ayala Museum, 998.7 DZFE The Master’s Touch, The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Lyric Piano and Organ and MusicArtes.

TWIN BILL THEATER will present “ WIT” - the Asian premiere of the Pulitzer Prize winner for Best Play starting April 19.

The last time a saw a production by this group , there is only one thing I remember distinctly to this day…..it was very well presented and executed, thus making “WIT” something to look forward to.

HOLY WEEK is just around the corner; and if there be a chance for you to attend a retreat or a recollection, I strongly urge that you do so. Although activities like these are “serious matters”, they certainly are fun .

Just this week, I attended a recollection organized by Minerva Tanseco, sponsored by Madame Josie Razon; and conducted by Fr. Vic de Jesus S.J.

Father Vic certainly got everyone of those present that morning “focused” on the topics of forgiveness and how to verbally say “I’m Sorry”.  Most of those who attended the recollection enjoyed giggling as they had been reminded of the beauty of Forgiveness.

To Forgive is not only for the Holy Week; it is something we can do to make life easier to live!!

Learn your very important lessons in Life; and……Happy Holy Week!!!
