Aussie missionary must leave today

THE Bureau of Immigration yesterday said it may initiate deportation proceedings against 71-year-old Australian missionary Patricia Fox if she refuses to the leave the country by today.

BI spokeswoman Dana Sandoval said a deportation could lead to Fox being included in the immigration’s blacklist, meaning she would be barred from entering the country again.

Sandoval said if Fox abides by the BI’s earlier order, then she could enter the country again by applying for a tourist visa but she has to apply for a tourist visa outside the country.

“This is because of the visa forfeiture, the alien is required to go out of the country to apply for one,” Sandoval said.

Sandoval explained that even if the camp of the missionary would appeal the BI decision ordering her to leave the country, they would still enforce the order for her to leave.

But she said the BI will follow whatever is the instruction of the Justice Secretary on the issue.

“The BI order is final and executory but we will follow whatever is the instruction of our higher ups in the DOJ,” she added.

The camp of Fox said the BI cannot just force her to leave the country as they would still appeal the decision before the office of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
