Duterte visits wake of cop, offers P500K for drug info

PRESIDENT Duterte visited yesterday the wake of a policeman killed in an anti-drug operation in Pasig City last Monday and offered P500,000 for information on those involved in illegal drug activities in the area.

Accompanied by PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa and other top police officials, Duterte extended his condolences to the family of PO3 Wilfredo Gueta, whose remains lie in state at his home on C. Raymundo Ave., Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City.

“I’m here to show to the people that I really hate drugs, that if you don’t stop, you’ll die,” said Duterte, who conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the medal of Kalasag to Gueta and also extended cash assistance to his family.

Gueta was shot twice in the chest by suspected pusher Roberto Llaguno after he was cornered by a police team out to arrest him and was declared dead on arrival at the Rizal Medical Center. Another cop, PO1 Reynaldo Cruz, was also shot and wounded by Llaguno, who was killed by other members of the team.

Two sachets of suspected shabu and other drug paraphernalia were recovered by the police during the operation.

The President also talked to Arnold Alvarez, barangay chairman of Barangay Maybunga, during the wake and offered to provide P500,000 for information on illegal drug activities in the area.

“O sige, bigyan ninyo ako ng impormasyon, babayad ako ng P500,000. Ibigay ko doon sin’ong gusto ninyo, sa barangay captain ninyo. Bigyan mo ako ng pangalan, bayad ako bukas P500,000, walang lokohan,” (Give me information, I will pay P500,000, no kidding) said Duterte, who reiterated his frustrations over the number of policemen that he loses to the drug war daily.

Cruz, who was shot in his left leg, was conferred the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” award. – With Christian Oineza
