Who’s who attend Erap’s birthday bash

PRESIDENT Duterte and several high-profile personalities like former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo attended the 80th birthday celebration of former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.

The President arrived before 10 p.m. at the Manila Hotel where the festivities were held.

Photos from the event showed that Duterte was seated between Estrada and Arroyo.

Also in the same table were former Vice President Jejomar Binay, former First Lady and now Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, former Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.

Also present in the event were former Speaker Jose de Venecia and former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, son of Estrada who was allowed by the Sandiganbayan to attend the event. The younger Estrada is currently detained in Camp Crame in Quezon City in connection with the alleged multi-billion peso pork barrel scam.

Duterte, in his message, initially greeted Estrada but as in his previous speeches, again talked of his campaign and commitment to eliminate illegal drugs and corruption in the country which he said is a threat to the next generation.

He also talked of his goal to improve the economy with the help of his Cabinet and economic managers whom he said are “clean and honest” and reaffirmed his commitment to go after the country’s oligarchs, particularly those who are not paying the correct taxes.

He also mentioned the peace efforts with the local communist and Moro rebels while warning about threats from Islamic extremists.

Before arriving at Manila Hotel, Duterte, in his speech at the launch of Cine Lokal at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, said Estrada once described him as “low class” and yet he has now been invited to attend his birthday bash.

“Si Erap, naghihintay na iyung buang. Birthday niya ngayon eh. Sabi niya, ‘Punta ka talaga ha kasi…?’ Tapos noon sabi niya, ‘Wala iyan si Duterte. Ano iyan, low class lang iyan. Ano iyang style niya pagka ano.’ Ngayon, t*** i** ibalik kita sa kulungan. (Erap, that crazy person is waiting. It’s his birthday today. He said ‘you attend.’ But before he said ‘that Duterte is nothing. He is low class.’ What is that style of his.’ Now, s** of s b**** I’ll return you to jail.),” Duterte joked, eliciting laugher from the audience.

Estrada, who was ousted in 2001 as president and replaced by Arroyo, was hounded by allegations of corruption and was even charged with plunder.
