JRU faces Letran in key tiff

JOSE Rizal University tries to stay in third when it battles Letran today in a match that will be crucial in the two teams’ bid for Final Four slots in the 93rd NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Bombers held on to No. 3 with a 6-5 record despite absorbing a heartbreaking 109-115 double overtime defeat to the Arellano U Chiefs last week while the Knights stayed in No. 4 after an 82-88 defeat at the hands of the Perpetual Help Altas last Friday for a 5-5 mark.

The game is set at 2 p.m.

Bombers coach Vergel Meneses admitted it was a tough loss but added they have to move on.

“There were some breaks late in the game that didn’t go our way,” said Meneses. “But we should move on because this is a long tournament and we couldn’t afford to dwell too much on the past.”

Emilio Aguinaldo College tries to break out of a three-way logjam at No. 6 with Perpetual Help and Arellano U when it faces cellar-dweller Mapua at 4 o’clock.

The Generals lost to the Stags 69-81 last Friday but are favored to bounce back strong against the Cardinals, who have dropped 10 of their first 11 assignments.
