Gloria sets new talks
with MILF
DFA undersecretary to head reconstituted peace panel

MALACAÑANG is reconstituting the government panel in the suspended peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The new panel chairman is Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Rafael Seguis, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said yesterday.

Ermita said the "complete reconstitution" of the government panel is expected by next week.

Cha-Cha express keeps rolling

THERE is no derailing the Charter Change express at the House of Representatives.

The committee on constitutional amendments, chaired by Rep. Victor Ortega (Kampi, La Union), will discuss today Resolution 737 authored by Speaker Prospero Nograles, which would allow the ownership by foreign corporations and associations of alienable public and private lands.

The resolution has gathered 163 signatures or 15 signatures short of the constitutional requirement of a three-fourths House vote. It lacks 33 signatures if the 24 senators are included.

Alliance of Church, business, civil society calls for end to corruption

AN alliance of business and Church groups and civil society organizations is calling for reforms to eradicate corruption, citizen participation in budget planning and prosecution of corrupt officials.

The call was made by the Coalition against Corruption which is composed of the Ateneo School of Government, Management Association of the Philippines, Makati Business Club, National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections, Transparency and Accountability Network, Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development, Caucus of Development NGO Networks, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Barug Pilipino, Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, and the National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

"We have not witnessed corruption of this magnitude since the years of the Marcos dictatorship," the group said.
