‘Don’t forget poor’ is GMA
message at Clinton forum

PRESIDENT Arroyo last night left for Hong Kong to attend the two-day Clinton Global Initiatives forum which starts today.

According to Malacañang, Arroyo will tell developed countries during the forum not to forget the poor and developing nations in view of the global financial crisis.

Arroyo is scheduled to return Wednesday.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Arroyo’s participation in the CGI showed that she "has been able to maintain her very good physical condition."

The First Couple underwent executive checkups over the weekend at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City in preparation for Arroyo’s trips to Hong Kong, Qatar, and Thailand.

The President, in an ambush interview at the Christmas party with the Malacañang Press Corps, said: "The doctors gave me a clean bill of health. They said the results were very unexciting. Everyday I have a full schedule."

Ermita said Arroyo "undertakes periodic conditioning."

"She plays golf, she goes on very rigid exercise three or four times a week." he said.

Arroyo is scheduled to attend the Asean Summit in Chiang Mai, Thailand from December 15 to 18 but Ermita said the government of Thailand is considering the summit’s postponement because of anti-government protests. – Regina Bengco
