AS long as there are compositions to lend his voice to and
places to perform, singer Luke Mejares will continue to sing. It
is his passion.
Having been in the professional music business for more than
a decade now, Luke admits that he has evolved as an artist. "One
has to grow with time. As an artist, I feel that I should be
open to explore possibilities, to spread my wings as a singer,
to sing songs beyond those that I usually perform."
For those who have momentarily forgotten how Luke started,
the singer from Bohol rose to fame when he joined the
then-popular R&B band South Border in 1998. He eventually left
the ban after five years and went solo.
The last few years saw Luke make his presence felt in
five-star hotels, bars, lounges and concert halls. He released
his first CD ("Stop, Luke, Listen") and this was followed by
another album titled "Pangako" from Sony-BMG Music. He does a
lot of corporate shows and also flies to different countries to
share his music with our hardworking overseas contract workers.
Whether here or abroad, Luke is ecstatic every time there are
opportunities for him to learn and experience new musical
adventures. Take for instance his Valentine concert scheduled on
February 14 at the Club Mwah in Mandaluyong City.
"I’d be doing musical collaborations with the Club Mwah
performers. It’s a first for me and I’m excited. I have heard a
lot of good reviews about them and I’ve seen them do their act.
They are really amazing at what they do – so much passion, so
much heart, so much color, so much art, too!"
The concept of this show came about when a few good friends
were having the best time of their lives at the posh Abaca
Resort in Mactan, Cebu. Although the concert is being top-billed
by Luke, the very humble singer says that it will be a major
visual and aural spectacle because the Club Mwah performers are
in it. "It will be a different kind of a Valentine concert, and
I can’t wait for V-Day to arrival!"
Now a doting young father to his two kids Akeisha and Jamal,
Luke feels that he looks at life at a more different perspective
now. "I feel more responsible now and having kids have taught me
to be more selfless. Whatever blessings come my way through my
gift of music, I now channel it to my family. They come first
now!"
With his newfound fulfillment as a family man, Luke is aware
that he needs to constantly nourish his gift of voice. "Music is
what brought me to where I am now. I am grateful for all the
small victories I had and many of the parks I still get as a
singer. I look forward to continue singing for as long as there
will be people out there listening to my songs and watching me
sing."
