Children and museums
as bridges of peace

Every country has its own internal conflicts. Conflicts can exist in the family, community or nation. The constant reminder to let children take part in decision-making and to expose them to responsible adult role models are important when conceptualizing programs, exhibits, as well as lesson plans and subjects for schools. Children’s museums can be bridges in understanding these conflicts. We can start with the young to help build peaceful adults.

Through a grant from the Japan Foundation, the Museo Pambata is calling on participants to join the 1st Asian Children’s Museum Conference from February 23-26 at the Manila Hotel, with the theme: Children’s Museums as Bridges of Peace.

Noted museum experts and educators from Canada, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, and the Philippines were invited to hold discussions and plenary sessions about the Asian child, children’s museums, the philosophy of "hands-on" learning, interactive exhibits, development and sustainability of educational programs, fundraising and networking, and marketing and promotions.

This conference can benefit museum workers, educators, peace builders, parents, caregivers, and policymakers whose concern for children can help create a better future for them.

"Peace can exist on so many levels. In their families, children can analyze how their identities are connected to that of their family members. From their reflections on the family, they can move on to discover their roles in the bigger families to which they belong – the community and the country." says Nina Lim-Yuson, president and CEO of Museo Pambata.

The 1st Asian Children’s Museum Conference is co-presented by the City of Manila, with additional support from the DOT, Globe Telecom, and Philippine Airlines.

Application forms are available at the Museo Pambata office at
Roxas Boulevard corner South Drive, Manila or you may download it from www.museopambata.org/acmc.For details, call 523 1797-98 (Alona) or 400 7558. You may also email info@museopambata.org.
