"We both believe in miracles. Mabait ang Diyos, pakikinggan niya ang dasal namin." - Lorna Tolentino

Rudy Fernandez faces new medical dilemma

NINE-year-old Jairus Aquino is getting praises for his role as a young kung fu expert in the high-rated teleserye, "Kung Fu Kids," on ABS- CBN. He plays leader to a group of kids, who have all the makings of action stars.

Wonder if it's because of the instant popularity of this first action-packed series of this kind, the other network is fielding a series of the same kind. It will be titled "Ninja Kids" reportedly.

"Ninja Kids," if you recall, was a title of a movie which was produced by Viva Films and had Randy Santiago as the leading man. Randy's dad, the late Pablo Santiago, directed "Ninja Kids."

Jairus made a name as a child star when he played sidekick to Makisig Morales in the superserye, "Super Inggo" and "Super Inggo 1.5." It was in both series that he was able to capture the admiration of boys and girls his age. And even those older. Among his followers, Jairus is known as the "pambansang bespren."

"I love it when young people my age call me bespren (best friend)," Jairus said. "Parang feeling ko, gusto nila akong maging matalik na kaibigan."

"Kung Fu Kids," according to its directors, Malou Sevilla and Richard Arellano (himself a former child star), is the first and only locally produced live-action anime. Likewise, it is the first TV series to use motion capture animation effects in the history of Philippine television. Millions of pesos have to be paid to acquire the needed equipment.

Even story-wise, "Kung Fu Kids" is set apart from the previous kiddieseryes or kiddie series. As the fighting kids, heroes as they are, do not use superpowers but merely rely on determination and teamwork to fight their opponents.

"I admire the young cast in 'Kung Fu Kids,'" stated Direk Malou. "They are all hard-working and really willing to follow instructions we gave them, just so they leave up to their respective roles."

The other children in "Kung Fu Kids" include Paul Salas, Eliza Pineda, Jane Oineza, Kristoffer Dangculos, Joshua Dionisio, and commercial mode Andre Garcia.

The adult in the cast are Sid Lucero, Allen Dizon, Matteo Guidecilli, Erich Gonzales, Kian Kazemi, and Asia Agcaoli. "Kung Fu Kids" also features Arlene Muhlach, Gerard Pizarras, and Wowie de Guzman. In very special roles are Jodi Sta. Maria and Mariel Rodriguez.

Is it true that the reason why Lorna Tolentino was teary-eyed while hosting "Star Talk" last Saturday with Lolit Solis, Butch Francisco, and Joey de Leon, was because her husband Rudy Fernandez's doctors found something alarming in Rudy's recent PET CT scan? They had thought all the while that Rudy was responding well to his medication.

"But we are both not giving up," said Lorna. "We both believe in miracles. Mabait ang Diyos, pakikinggan niya ang dasal namin."

Lorna and Rudy now admit that it's cancer which Rudy is suffering from. A number of cells have been affected by the disease in his body, so much so, they reportedly cannot detect what cancer really afflicts him. Until this latest discovery by his doctors.

Well, let's help the couple pray for a miracle.

KC Concepcion is reportedly undergoing massive training in acting from several acting experts at ABS-CBN.

KC will make her acting debut in an episode in "Maalaala Mo Kaya" with Derek Ramsey playing her leading man.

"Mahirap ang role ni KC sa nabanggit na episode, since she will play a girl na ubod ng hirap. E, di naman naranasan ni KC ang maging mahirap, di ba?" said a "Maalaala" insider.

By the way, how true are reports that one of the causes of her break up from former boyfriend Lino Cayetano is that he verbally abused her?

Right now, rumors have it that one of KC's ardent suitors is Richard Gutierrez, who professes to be a one-woman man.
