For people from low to no-income families,
putting food on the table is a daily struggle. But when members
of restaurant and media industries joined forces in fighting
hunger, the results were impressive and satisfying.
Congo Grille, the metro’s leading family
grill destination, provided a nourishing menu for some 300
residents of Barangay Palanas in Quezon City. To fulfill its
commitment, Congo Grille partnered with GMA-7 Kapuso News &
Public Affairs’ in its recent Soup Kitchen advocacy campaign.
Acting as second-time sponsor for the news
bureau’s Soup Kitchen activity since it participated in 2007,
Congo Grille shared the community service initiative in line
with its thrust to orient employes to a proactive,
socially-conscious and responsible company culture. Held in a
spacious tent kitchen station in front of the GMA Network
compound, the Congo Grille restaurant management team led by its
general manager Corky Delos Santos and assistant sales and
marketing manager Carla Villanueva attended to the participants.
Apart from providing delicious hot meals
during the affair, Congo Grille also gave away party favors and
gifts to add a fun ambiance in the outdoor dining area.
Specially wrapped and handed out as giveaways for kids, the toys
were part of the donations collected by employes and customers
through the company-initiated gift-giving drive last November.
Villanueva said the event was a success
because of the support for the Soup Kitchen coming from
companies and individuals with shared trusts. "These qualities
served as the driving force that kept us involved and focused in
doing our part. Apart from experiencing the joy of giving back,
we are so blessed to become instrumental in such a worthy
initiative."
Congo Grille’s crusade against hunger began
last year with its first corporate social responsibility
advocacy in Barangay T. De Leon, Valenzuela City, dubbed
"Congo-Hugs-A-Heart: Serving Sizzlings of Fun." Done in tandem
with GMA Kapuso Foundation’s Feed-a-Child Project, the
restaurant sponsored a week-long supply of poultry and pork
needed for the feeding program of 407 malnourished children.
