Resign, 60 ex-officials
urge GMA Cabinet

'Do what is right, walk in the light'

ABOUT 60 former senior officials from the Aquino, Ramos, Estrada and Arroyo governments yesterday asked Cabinet members to "cut clean" and expose wrongdoings in the present government.

"We call on all those who can no longer endure this wrongful governance, with its structures of evil and unmoderated greed. It's time to cut clean. It's time to go. Tama na. Sobra na," they said in a statement read by former Ambassador Alberto del Rosario at a gathering at La Salle Greenhills.

About 5,000 people, including former President Corazon Aquino, attended a Mass at the La Salle gymnasium held in support of Rodolfo Noel "Jun" Lozada, who was also present.

3 bishops come to
Gloria's defense

THREE Catholic prelates yesterday came to President Arroyo's defense.

"We are quick to condemn corruption when perpetrated by others. It is more difficult to acknowledge that the seeds of corruption lie in all our hearts," said a joint statement of Bishop Ramon Villena of Bayombong (Nueva Vizcaya), Archbishop Diosdado Talamayan of Tuguegarao (Cagayan) and Apostolic Vicar Bishop Rodolfo Beltran of Bontoc (Mt. Province)-Lagaw (Ifugao).

They also said the call of the Catholid Bishops Conference of the Philippines for communal action does not mean confrontation but immersion in the community of prayer and deep reflection.

Panel likely to ask
Ping to take stand

BLUE Ribbon chair Alan Peter Cayetano yesterday said Sen. Panfilo Lacson might be asked to testify on a meeting with acting Higher Education chair Romulo Neri in Makati City last December where the latter described President Arroyo as "evil."

Cayetano said the joint Senate panel investigating the ZTE deal would hold a caucus today on the possibility of Lacson taking the witness stand.

Lacson yesterday said ZTE star witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr. is expected to talk about Neri's statement when the latter testifies today.
