HAVING established herself as a star in the
world of music and television, Jessica Simpson had begun to
take the plunge into motion pictures with supporting roles in
"The Dukes of Hazard" and "Employee of the Month." Now, she
plays her first starring role in this year’s most romantic
comedy film about career and personality makeover. Titled
"Blonde Ambition," it features Simpson in a performance that
immediately molded her into a very versatile actress. She
confesses that she felt a kinship with the character of Katie
upon reading the script.
"I fell in love right away with the
character of Katie," adds Jessica. "There’s an innocence about
her that is so appealing. When her heart is broken, she comes
to realize she needs to stand up as a woman. I’ve had very
similar experiences in the past, going through heartbreak and
finding a way not to let my vulnerability crush who I am
inside. Besides, Katie’s also goofy and silly. Everything she
does, she does with a smile. So I am thankful for the chance
to fulfill this dream role."
On the other hand, young director Scott
Marshall says: "I had seen Jessica’s two films, and even
though she didn’t have a lot to do, I think she did a great
job. She was very enthusiastic about taking on this challenge,
and we worked together a lot before we shot the film,
rehearsing and finding our way with her character. She’s also
very good at physical comedy, which I hadn’t seen her do
before this. She really stepped up. Her enthusiasm got me
really excited about this movie."
In "Blonde Ambition," multi-faceted actor
Luke Wilson ("My Super Ex-Girlfriend") co-stars with Jessica.
"Watching Luke gives you a very comfortable feeling." Notes
producer David Ornston, "In real life, he’s exactly like the
guy you see onscreen: Laid back, easy going. There aren’t a
lot of actors who can pull that off. As Katie’s love interest,
he’s everyone’s choice and the perfect leading man for
Jessica."
Filmed in the romantic tradition of "Pretty Woman" starring
Julia Roberts, "Blonde Ambition" is supported by Penelope Ann
Miller ("The Freshman"), Rachel Leigh Cook ("She’s All That")
and Andy Dick ("Employee of the Month"). It is released in the
Philippines through Solar Entertainment Corporation.
