UE spikers in fast start

COLLEGIATE standouts from University of the East bucked the afternoon heat and turned back their rivals yesterday in the opening matches of the first leg of the 2008 Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament at the UE Caloocan sand courts.

Katherine Rivera and Gina Flor Alanguilan overwhelmed Ma. Diana Maceda and Sheila Mae Banawa 21-4 while another UE pair, Kimberly Dizon and Abigail Escandor, downed FEATI’s Princess Lanzarote and Jheng Escalona 21-12.

The UE pairs kept in step with the veteran duo of Sheena Rose Teves and Lourdes Patillano and the tandem of Raisalyn Noleal and Venus Benecio who also came through with scintillating wins in the event backed by the UE Physical Education Department, Speedo, Mikasa, Asian College of Science and Technology and Arellano University.

Teves and Patillano, last year’s first-leg champions, crushed the FEATI team of Jennifer Peralta and Maricel Nano 21-15. ACSAT stalwarts Noleal and Benecio breezed past the Arellano University tandem of Joy Anne Ibuyan and Ruby Anne Montaner 21-13.
