Steve Carrel: From
virgin to good dad

NEW comic sensation Steve Carrel of "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" fame shows not only his funny side but his dramatic talent as well in a family oriented film that will touch the hearts of audiences from all walks of life. Titled "Dan in Real Life," it features Carrel in the role of a widower whose sense of humor made his three daughters happy until he fell in love with his brother’s girlfriend. Carrel’s performance in the film is currently getting wild reactions from critics worldwide.

Here’s what they say: "If you like thoughtful humor, if you are in need of a good laugh, this is the movie for you. Steve Carrel is brilliant in this film and he plays the dad role so well. He’s very lovable when doing a scene with his three daughters. There seemed to be a perfect chemistry among them. I felt like I’m watching my own family on the big screen. I actually got the impression that a lot of the film was adlibbed because several times the actors themselves were laughing, which just made the viewer laugh even more. It’s the comedy film of the year!"

"Dan in Real Life" starts with Dan Burns, a local newspaper advice columnist. He brings his three daughters to his parents’ house for a family get together. When Dan goes to a local bookstore, he meets a woman, Marie. To catch her attention, Dan poses as a shop clerk, and convinces her to buy a random selection of books. When Marie finds out the truth, Dan proposes to make it up for her. The two share an intimate conversation and Dan starts falling for her. Marie gets a phone call and starts to leave immediately. Dan asks for her number. Marie refuses saying that she just started a new relationship, but relents and gives Dan her number.

On the way back, Dan, an otherwise careful driver, is so engrossed in the memory of Marie that he jumps a stop sign and gets a ticket. When he gets home, he finds out to his surprise that Marie is his brother Mitch’s girlfriend, but not before he mentions that he met a hottie at the bookstore. Dan tells Marie that they should not mention the bookstore incident to the family. The family starts liking Marie, while Dan gets envious and starts to behave strangely. Over the next few days, the two go back and forth in forbidden love and hilarious twists!

Directed by Peter Hedges, "Dan in Real Life" also stars Juliette Binoche, Dane Cook, Alison Pill, Brittany Robertson, and Marlene Lawston. The film is distributed in the Philippines through Solar Entertainment Corporation.
