Alcaraz-Quigaman nuptials

MISS International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman and actor Marco Alcaraz were united as one in a Christian wedding last Sunday, July 8, at Hacienda Isabella in Indang, Cavite, celebrating their beautiful love story in grand fashion with their family and kin and closest friends.

A late afternoon drizzle, meant to be a blessing from heaven, preceded the ceremony officiated by Pastor John V. Gay. Lara and Marco exchanged wedding vows before their families and closest kin and friends including those from the entertainment and pageantry worlds.

Among the principal sponsors were Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, ABS-CBN’s entertainment head Cory Vidanes, Camarines Sur Gov. Luis R. Villafuerte Jr., Ilocos Sur Vice Gov. Deogracias Victor B. Savellano (who came with wife Dina Bonnevie) and Noel D. Ferrer.

Adrian Luis C. Alandiz was one of the best men; Maja Andres a.k.a. Maja Salvador, Valerie N. Galang a.k.a. Valerie Concepcion were among the bridesmaids; Paolo Miguel D. Paraiso, Gerald Joseph O. Anderson and Jason J. Abalos were among the groomsmen; Brgy. Capt. Jeremy S. Marquez was veil sponsor and Councilor Alfredo Paolo D. Vargas III a.k.a. Alfred Vargas was candle sponsor.

Gionna J. Cabrera (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2005), Carlene Aguilar-Ocampo (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2005), Denille Valmonte-Valera (Bb. Pilipinas-Int’l 2006), Karen Agustin-Ostrea (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2002) and Florian Sheriliz B. Almoro (Bb. Pilipinas finalist 2000) were among the bridesmaids. Miriam Quiambao (Miss Universe 1st runner-up 1999), Karla Henry (Miss Earth 2008), Anna Maris Igpit (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2006), Wendy Valdez (Bb. Pilipinas 1st runner-up 2005), Jamie Liz Castillo-Victoria (Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific 2003), Abby Cruz-Ramos (Bb. Pilipinas 2nd runner-up 2007) and Kristine Caballero (Mutya ng Pilipinas 1st runner-up 2002) also graced the grand affair.

During the exchange of wedding vows, Lara said (in jest) she prayed for Piolo Pascual but God gave her Marco instead. Later, she confessed quite seriously that Marco was an answered prayer, as well as Noah who is now five and a half months in her womb. In turn, Marco said Lara will always be his precious love and greatest blessing from God.

During the reception, an AVP of Marco and Lara was played, including Lara’s victorious moment as Miss International 2005 in Tokyo, Japan.

We will never forget the first time I met Lara in January of 2005 at the Gateway Mall to interview her for a feature article in Malaya as she was preparing for the 2005 Bb. Pilipinas Pageant. With finely chiseled facial features and waist-long glossy black hair, we described her as “Fair Lady from the UK.” Lara had just arrived from Bristol, UK (where her mom Princesita was working as a nurse) and she was introduced to me by David Natanawan and Ferdinand Abejon of Pageant Enthusiasts Guild of the Philippines, the tandem who persuaded Lara to return to Manila to vie for Bb. Pilipinas 2005.

Under the tutelage of famous pageant mentor Rodgil Flores, Lara underwent a rigorous training (along with Carlene Aguilar who eventually won as Bb. Pilipinas-World). We helped train Lara and Carlene for the Q & A and during the Bb. Pilipinas finals at the Big Dome, Lara was asked the very same question we asked during our training, the now-classic pageant question “What is the essence of being a woman?” Lara, of course, answered quite smartly and won. She is ,in fact, living that essence now as a wife to Marco and would-be mother to Noah.

Congratulations Marco and Lara! May your wedded life be filled with happiness and the grace of Our Lord.
