Filipino-tasting wine reaches
international market

Filipinos overseas can now look forward to having Novellino wines on store shelves wherever they are in the world. Bel Mondo Italia Corp (BMIC), makers of the wines, is set on getting the overseas Filipino market, encouraged by its success in California – the company’s first export venture.

"We believe that our wines can meet global quality standards and have an opportunity in the international market," BMIC president Vicente Quimbo Jr. said. The company offers good value red and white wines with the qualities that Filipino consumers look for such as: characteristically soft, smooth, sweet, fruity and bubbly.

It began exporting its wines to California in September 2006. "The venture to California is consistent with the company direction of expanding abroad by initially following the density trail of Filipino communities and California has one of the largest Filipino communities in the US ," says BMIC general manager Francis Moral.

The firm worked closely with government agencies and trade organizations last year to gain insights and seek in-roads in other countries. It was one of the companies invited to join the Philippine business delegation which accompanied President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to a trade mission in Australia and New Zealand in May 2007.

A trial shipment of wines landed in New Zealand in August 2007. Ascot Imports had been looking for new Filipino and found an interesting match with Novellino wines. It also made its debut in the Food and Hotel Vietnam trade exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City last year.
