AFP sees speed up of anti-reb drive

THE Armed Forces yesterday batted for the national identification system which was shot down by the Supreme Court during the Ramos administration.

The military made the recommendation to President Arroyo during a command conference in Camp Aguinaldo. The President directed the defense department to study the military’s proposal.

The conference, attended by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, AFP chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr., top military commanders and PNP chief Avelino Razon, tackled internal security operations.

Wooing for destab
continues, Gloria told

THE Armed Forces yesterday told President Arroyo a group of civilians might be still enticing military men to destabilize her administration as the PNP said it is monitoring at least 10 of the 53 recently released Magdalo officers.

PNP chief Avelino Razon said the Magdalo group that staged the Oakwood mutiny in 2003 continues to "espouse plans to overthrow the government."

Razon said the President was informed of the threat during a command conference in Camp Aguinaldo which she presided. Also present were AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

Vols seek clearer firefighting rules

FIRE volunteers yesterday called for a review of the protocol among firefighters in the wake of the 30-hour fire that hit Galleria Baclaran Shopping Mall last week.

"There has to be constant cooperation and communication between members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and fire volunteers," fire marshal Joseph Yu of the Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Firefighters of the Philippines Inc. (AVFCFPI) said in a press conference. "We believe in the protocol but we may have to go back to the basics of planning and updating them."

The fire volunteers asked why it took the BFP two hours to raise the third alarm.
