Leader
with a vision
Two years from now, we’re going to
have a new leader.
Names of probable candidates are
starting to be revealed. Standard bearers of the
administration and the opposition, different political
figures who have plans of running are becoming the talk
of the town. Too early as it may seem, but yes, this is
the buzz.
Yes, they are all eligible to run.
But the question is, who among them has the capability
to lead this country effectively, not who is the most
popular. They have yet to prove this.
Rev. Theodore Martin Hesburgh said
that the very essence of leadership is that you have to
have a vision. Among the present crop of political
leaders, I admire President Arroyo for setting forth a
vision for the Filipino nation. She puts on efforts and
programs in order to achieve her vision for a First
World Philippines in 20 years. This is one thing I
commend her for despite the many challenges she is
battling with.
This is the challenge that I pose to
the aspiring leaders – what is their vision for the
nation? – Jairah_anne@yahoo.com
On
Comelec revamp
I agree with the bold and drastic
views of National Security Adviser Gonzales that
"…retaining the status quo in the Comelec is the
greatest threat to national democracy." In fact, many of
the people I know will agree that the Comelec lost
credibility during the past national and local
elections.
Such reforms in the Comelec and the electoral process
will bring back the people’s faith in the system and
restore the foundations of our democracy. It shall also
remove all doubts and grant legitimacy to the next
presidential elections in 2010. Truly, a lasting legacy
for the PGMA administration to leave behind for the
Filipino people. – ELIRA GOCHANGCO,
