Graham-Lotz to speak in women’s revival
meet at Araneta on Feb. 2
ANN Graham-Lotz, daughter of the world-renowned evangelist
Billy Graham and an international speaker in her own right, will share her
life-changing story in the women’s revival gathering at the Araneta Coliseum in
Cubao, Quezon City on Feb. 2.
Before that, she will also address business executives and
religious leaders at the National Leaders’ Breakfast forum at the Crowne Plaza
Galleria in Ortigas on Jan. 30.
Graham-Lotz, author of the best-selling "Just Give Me Jesus,"
established in 1988 the AnGel Ministries, a non-profit corporation which gives
out messages of Biblical exposition through her speaking, tapes and books. She
has spoken several times before the International Congress of Itinerant
Evangelists in Amsterdam and at the School of Evangelism in Moscow. She has been
the featured speaker at conferences, seminaries, churches and universities on
every continent of the world except Antarctica.
Boy dead, aunt critical after cargo truck hit them
A 10-YEAR-old boy was instantly killed while his aunt was
seriously injured Friday morning after a cargo truck caused a four-vehicle
smash-up in Las Piñas City.
Benjamin Lamban, a Grade 4 pupil and a resident of Wawa,
Bacoor, Cavite, died on the spot from severe head and body injuries. His aunt
Nenita Herrera, 47, of Pulang Lupa, remains in serious condition at the San Juan
de Dios Hospital.
Truck driver Antonio Visnar, of Caloocan City, surrendered to
authorities along with Roy Ruel, 67, a German national, of BF Resort Village,
Las Piñas. Ruel was reportedly driving the Toyota Innova (ZBB-669) that hit the
victims.
SPO1 Domingo Blando of the Traffic Management Unit said
Visnar’s cargo truck was cruising southbound along Coastal Road at around 6 a.m.
when one of its rear wheels came off, causing the truck to cross lanes and slam
against Ruel’s Innova. The Innova then slammed against the sidewalk where the
victims were waiting for a ride.
The Innova also struck an Isuzu Crosswind (XJY-449) and a
Toyota Revo (SGS-350) but the drivers of the two vehicles were unhurt. –

Brit found dead in his Surigao home
A 52-YEAR-old British national was found dead late Wednesday
afternoon inside his house in Surigao City, an apparent suicide.
Chief Supt. Jaime Milla, Caraga region police director, said
Peter Terence Hoy, a resident of Ceniza Heights, Washington, apparently shot
himself. He had reportedly just come from a medical checkup in Cebu City in the
company of his wife. Minutes after arriving, his wife left again to fetch their
daughter from the Surigao Medical Center.
Mother and daughter found Hoy dead inside the bathroom when
they returned. Recovered from the scene were a pistol, a slug, an empty cal. 45
shell and a magazine with five bullets.
Probers said there was no sign of struggle at the scene

Cop shot dead in Bacoor
FOUR still unidentified armed men shot dead PO2 Rommel Garcia
inside his house in Imus, Cavite late Wednesday night.
A report to Camp Crame said Garcia, assigned with the Bacoor
Municipal Police Station, was fixing a computer with a companion when the
suspects barged into his home at Good Family Homes in Anabu 1-A and shot him
several times in the body. The suspects then fled on a Mitsubish Lancer car
(NDJ-260).
Garcia was rushed to the Our Lady of Pilar Medical Hospital
in Imus but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. – Raymond Africa
Tetanus claims 2nd victim
ALMOST two weeks after the orgy of lighting firecrackers to
welcome 2008, a 55-year-old man who sustained a firecracker wound on his right
thumb died Tuesday from tetanus infection.
The National Epidemiology Center said the man, whose name was
not released, died at the San Lazaro Hospital. The fatality was from Bambang,
Bulacan. He was the second to die of tetanus infection.
The victim is already the third casualty of the festivity but
is the second that was caused by tetanus.
On Monday, a 29-year old man from Caloocan City also died
from tetanus after suffering numerous injuries from a dynamite firecracker.
The Health Department called anew on those who have been
wounded by firecracker blasts to get anti-tetanus shots. NEC director Dr. Eric
Tayag said tetanus symptoms set in three to 28 days after being wounded. –

Woman gets 45 years for
illegal recruitment
SONIA Mercario of Barangay San Miguel, Pasig City was
sentenced to 45 years for large-scale illegal recruitment and four counts of
estafa.
She was also fined P100,000 and ordered to pay her victims
P240,000 in damages after she made them believe that she was recruiting apple
pickers and hospital workers for the United States in 2002. She promised her
victims Raquel Navarro, Noemi Basilio, Aileen Caron and Marlon Ortega that they
would earn $8 to $10 per hour.
She also obtained from them from P30,000 to P87,000 to allegedly pay for
their visas, passports, placement fee and other required documents. The victims
sued when Mercario failed to make good her promise to get them off to the US
