RP to host Beijing Hyundai dealers’ conference

The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that the Philippines will be hosting the annual dealer’s conference and incentive trip of Beijing Hyundai Automotive Company. A total of 550 executives, traders and staff are expected to attend the event in February to be held in Manila and Cebu.

Tourism secretary Joseph Ace Durano welcomed the positive development, adding that "The influx of this big group opens great opportunities for our hotels, resorts, restaurants, retail shops, transport service providers and other businesses in the travel trade."

" China ’s fast-growing economy brings to the table an increasing need for corporate services, including those in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) market. The department is working with the private sector in building up the Philippines as one of the leading venues for MICE in Southeast Asia," Durano further shared.

Beijing Hyundai Automotive is a joint venture between top South Korean carmaker Hyundai and Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings.

NW names new MD for Asia

EAGAN, Minn. –Northwest Airlines announced that Brian Swain has been named Managing Director – Asia effective January 14, 2008. In his new position, Swain will have the regional responsibility for Northwest’s activities in Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Guam and Saipan and GSA territories elsewhere in Asia.

Swain has held several positions in Marketing since joining Northwest Airlines in 1997. He has extensive experience in Pacific and Atlantic Revenue Management including a 3-year assignment in Amsterdam as Manager of Atlantic Yield Management.

Crown Regency joins Sinulog festival

For a price package of P999 net, one can savor sumptuous buffets of Brunch, Merienda and Dinner on January 20th from Glo Café located at the 2nd level, Crown Regency Hotel, Osmeña blvd., Fuente Osmeña, Cebu City. Tiger Airways sees bright prospects with fleet of 70 A320 aircraft

Tiger Airways, Asia-Pacific’s fast growing low-fare carrier, has signed a contract with Airbus for an additional 20 A320s, which will take its fleet up to 70 aircraft. This announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 50 A320s in June 2007, with the first 30 of these orders confirmed in October. Tiger Airways currently operates a fleet of 12 A320s, with eight more to be delivered by 2010. Tiger Airways A320s will be configured in a 180-seat, all economy configuration.

The A320s will be deployed on the airline’s rapidly expanding Asia-Pacific network that currently extends to more than 25 destinations in eight countries. This includes Tiger Airways’ new Australian domestic operation, which was launched out of Melbourne in November 2007.

The latest order from Tiger Airways serves to further boost the significance of Singapore as a major market for the entire family of Airbus aircraft. Over the past decade, Singapore carriers have ordered a total of 156 Airbus aircraft comprising of 63 wide-body and 93 single aisle aircraft.
