“Para sa akin, as long as two people who decide to marry are sure of their feelings for each other, their marriage will work, no matter what.”–Cheska Garcia

Cheska welcomes same wedding year with Patrick

THE two girls of Ruffa Gutierrez namely Lorin and Venice, five and four, respectively, may not have seen their Turkish dad for months now but the impact and influence Yilmaz (Bektas) may have created on his daughters have not a bit waned.

Ruffa cited an example. When the three of them posed for a magazine cover and the photographer suggested that like their mom, the two girls should also submit to a make-up session, Venice, in particular, blurted out: "Daddy said no make-up."

It was only after Ruffa had assured them that daddy will not mind if it’s just "little," that the two finally acceded.

Last Christmas and New Year celebrations were the first time that the three of them party minus Yilmaz.

Did the little girls miss him?

"I don’t know," she quickly replied. "But if they did, they didn’t tell me. At this point in time, I noticed kasi, that the bonding among the three of us has become stronger, parang ang importante sa kanila ay nandiyan ako sa kanila. Young as they are, it’s obvious na naiisip siguro nila, paano na sila kung pati ako wala sa kanila?"

"But, of course, I don’t want them, or, either of them, to entertain that thought," Ruffa added. "They are too young to have a problem."

Ruffa revealed that last Christmas the Gutierrezes would have spent the holiday in Cebu (her mom’s home town). When the girls learned that she was not going with the family, as she had to stay put in Manila for the promo of her Metro Manila Film Festival entry, "Desperadas," Lorin and Venice opted to stay with her.

"To make up to them for my busy schedule, kapag libre ako from any of my commitments, I spent as much time with them as possible, explaining to them, of course, why mommy has to work. I take them as my greatest and biggest responsibility," Ruffa declared. "I keep praying and hoping that even if they remain really fatherless, they’ll still grow up like any normal child, happy and, well, complete."

Guess what Dawn Zulueta wishes to accomplish most this year.

She wants another child! After all, she explained, her son Jacobo, is nearing three years old.

The boy is earning money this early. Yes, by joining his mom in some of her commercial endorsements.

Despite marriage and motherhood, Dawn remains one of local showbiz’s most beautiful faces. One good reason why she continues to get interesting TV offers. Dawn plays Vhong Navarro’s mom in "Lastikman."

Dawn said her role as a congressman’s wife to Davao’s Anton Lagdameo allows her to do more charitable works. She is an active member of the group of Congressional Spouses who frequently do fund-raising work to be able to sustain their numerous charitable endeavors.

Cheska Garcia said she will not mind if her younger brother Patrick Garcia and his pregnant girlfriend, Jennylyn Mercado, decide to also get married this year, just like her and her fiancé, top cager Douglas Kramer.

"Hindi ako naniniwala sa sukob sa taon na sinasabi nila," Cheska said. "Para sa akin, as long as two people who decide to marry are sure of their feelings for each other, their marriage will work, no matter what."

Sukob means for two siblings to get married the same year. It’s a Filipino belief that sukob marriages usually result with one of the two couples experiencing bad luck.

"Kaya I would advise Patrick and Jennylyn to go on with their plan of getting married, if they really believe they are prepared for it," Cheska continued.

Cheska and Douglas are getting married in October this year.
