Philippine arts festival
opens on Feb. 1


Celebrating the Pinoy creativity, led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the month-long Philippine Arts Festival dubbed as "Ani ng Sining" that will be held in February, is a harvest and showcase of all the best of the seven primary arts. The public is invited to the following events:

A touring exhibit on the works of National Artists in the field of Architecture and allied arts that include: Juan Nakpil, Pablo Antonio, Leandro V. Locsin, Ildelfonso P. Santos as well as a number of interior designers.

The SineSambayanan is a film showing of classic to independent films with a review that will be held in public plazas.

The Sayaw Pinoy is composed of dance performances by various dance groups. It will also feature a dance activity with dancers interacting with the audience.

There will also be productions that will highlight the works of five living National Artists for Literature dubbed as Pagpupugay sa mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining sa Literatura.

Musical performances throughout the regions dubbed as Salimbayan will be mounted at bus stations, streets, parks, and other public areas.

The National Theater Festival for Universities is a take-off on the annual event involving university-based theater groups and productions from all over the country. It also serves as venue for artists to interact and exchange ideas. This year it will be hosted by the Western Mindanao State University.

Process/Yon is a continuation and logical progression of WebSining, the flagship project of the National Committee of Visual Arts of the NCCA, which gives cognizance to digital art.

The festival’s opening will be at Intramuros on February 1 with a dawn-to-dawn party that begins at 5 a.m. with marching bands on the gates of Intramuros, converging at the NCCA building along General Luna St. This will be followed by Musikalye featuring musicians situated in the area plus a parade with the participation of various schools. NCCA chair Vilma Labrador will formally start the affair. Other daytime activities will be performances by the following: UE Choral, Ramon Magsaysay Choir, theater actors as well as painting of a street mural and story-telling.
