AGRICULTURE Secretary Arthur Yap yesterday
defended the continued use of endosulfan, a "highly toxic"
pesticide, saying it is being administered under "strict
guidelines."
"The policy decision on whether to continue
using it or not can wait for maybe a week or two because it is
being used in 20 countries and we've never had any problem on
its usage. The issue today is not usage; it's the
transportation," he said.
Yap also said records of the Fertilizer and
Pesticide Authority (FPA) showed the use of the endosulfan will
be allowed only until December.
