Sulpicio sues weather bureau
 Seeks P4M damages for 'incompetence'

SULPICIO Lines yesterday filed a P4.45 million civil suit against the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration for gross incompetence that led M/V Princess of the Stars to capsize off Sibuyan island in Romblon last June 21.

The civil suit was filed by Sulpicio Lines Inc., through its senior first vice president Edgar S. Go, before the Manila court.

Neri moving from higher education to SSS
A permanent post at last?

ACTING chairman Romulo Neri of the Commission on Higher Education has been tapped to replace Corazon de la Paz as president of the Social Security System by the end of July, CHEd sources said yesterday.

Waiting in the sidelines as Neri's replacement is CHEd Commissioner Nona Ricafort who has been visible in regular Cabinet meetings.

Neri declined comment.

DA defends use of endosulfan

AGRICULTURE Secretary Arthur Yap yesterday defended the continued use of endosulfan, a "highly toxic" pesticide, saying it is being administered under "strict guidelines."

"The policy decision on whether to continue using it or not can wait for maybe a week or two because it is being used in 20 countries and we've never had any problem on its usage. The issue today is not usage; it's the transportation," he said.

Yap also said records of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) showed the use of the endosulfan will be allowed only until December.
