When you are in Boracay, don't fail to visit
Puka Beach and Mt. Luho lookout point where you can see all of
the island.
Puka Beach, contrary to the hype of boatmen
and other travel agents, is easily accessible.
Get any tricycle in the island and tell the
driver to take you to Puka Beach. Depending on how well you can
bargain, he will take you there from P50 to P150 per trip. I
managed to bring him down to P200 round trip.
Boatmen will try to convince you that Puka
beach is accessible only by the sea. Don't believe that but if
you want a banca ride, that can add to your enjoyment.
When you get to Puka Beach, you will be
speechless. The water has a deeper azure color than the main
beach.
The time we were there, My husband and I were
awestruck by the beauty of the place. The beach was almost
deserted save for a couple of obviously native kids.
The shell sellers were trying to convince us
to have lunch at one of the restaurants there that they claim
will cook fresh catch for us.
We had to take a rain check on the offer
since we agreed to meet someone for lunch at the main beach.
The following day we went to Mt. Luho lookout
point, several hundred meters high.
I had to walk up and the climb was ardous for
someone as heavy as I am.
For the first time in so many years, I perspired, but the
view was fantastic. There was a tower like those guarding
prisons, on the lookout point. I climbed that, disturbing a
couple of lovers and had a grand view of the Alta Vista condos,
the Shangri-La Hotel, the Paradise complex plus a fantastic view
of heavy rain in the horizon. When I return to Boracay, I plan
to visit these two special places again. (RTG)
