John Lloyd gives back
on his special day

When young matinee idol John Lloyd Cruz turned a year older last June 24, he decided to share his blessings with a katutubo community in Pampanga. The new endorser of Greenwich, brought an overload of surprises for the families at Barangay Planas in the municipality of Porac, with the help of the popular pizza company that’s been ever supportive of John Lloyd’s on- and off-screen projects.

The star of the upcoming movie "A Very Special Love," co-produced by Viva Films and Star Cinema, helped put the spotlight on supporting the community as he visited the RVM Sisters’ House, Katutubo Health Village Center and Katutubo Village Elementary School.

"Nabigyan ako ng larawan ng mga kababayan natin na pwede pang makaranas ng kaunti pang ginhawa. Naisip ko na marami pa rin talagang nangangailangan ng tulong ng iba, ng tulong natin," he said.

The actor himself, rushing to Pampanga after a marathon press conference in Manila, helped prepare the schoolbags to be given to the children and filled them with food, notebooks and other school supplies. Volunteer doctors and dentists were present to give free health consultations all throughout the day and distribute medicine supplies. Later in the day, John Lloyd treated the villagers to a special Greenwich merienda of pizza and pasta.

His efforts were met with rousing cheers by the families and John Lloyd was the proud recipient of several specially prepared gifts and handmade birthday cards from some members of the katutubo community.

"At this point, I really have so much to be thankful for. Maraming sumusuporta sa ‘kin, ‘di naman tayo naghihirap, at nakakain naman tayo three times a day. Blessed naman tayo, and it just makes you want to help others more," said the visibly touched actor. "First time kong magpunta dito at makihalubilo sa inyo. At masasabi kong napasaya niyo talaga ako ngayong araw na ito," he told them.

True to his good heart, John Lloyd intends to go back and be able to help more residents in a bigger way.

"Masarap sana kung makabalik ako to see how everyone is doing," he shared. "Na-feel ko kasi talaga na kulang pa rin yung support sa kanila, and if walang nangyari, I’m ready to help out in my own way. For now, I’m happy na pwede akong makatulong ng ganito."
