BEARYL Rene Lopez, a second year high school student at St.
James in Quezon City, gave her best performing "Best of Both
Worlds" to win the recent "Hannah Montana You Can Be a Popstar"
contest finals at the SM Mall of Asia.
Beryl, 13, will be flying soon to Los Angeles, in popstar
style to meet Miley in person and participate in the recording
of "Hannah Montana Season 3 Live." This is a dream come true for
Berly, who is a certified Hannah Montana fan because "she sings
very well and is a role model for kids my age." Her favorite
song is "One in a Million" and says that the lyrics, "They say
good things come in time, but really great things happen in a
blink of an eye," describe her feeling after winning the
contest.
Fifteen finalists sang "Best of Both Worlds" and "Rockstar"
from "Hannah Montana." Contest judges Disney Channel head for
Southeast Asia Laura Wendt, singer and actress Nanette Inventor,
and singer Ruben Laurente, based their decision on the following
criteria: vocals and stage performance - 30%, appearance - 20%,
movements - 10%, and connection with audience - 40%.
During the event, shoppers were treated to interactive
activities about Hannah Montana. A minimum purchase of Hannah
Montana merchandise at the SM department store and Toy Kingdom
entitled shoppers to an activity passport. Fun stops included
the Popstar Makeover Stations for Hair and Make Up that have
kids that popstar look, the Wardrobe Station and Photo Spotlight
Station where kids can put on clothes to get their Hannah
Montana look. Kids could bring home a piece of the Hannah
Montana experience at the merchandise station of the SM
department store and Toy Kingdom.
A join project of the SM Supermalls and the Disney Channel,
the contest drew many a tween contestants who dressed like and
sang like their idol, Miley Cyrus, who plays a schoolgirl by day
and a popstar by night.
